Sustainability

The beauty industry is responsible for a huge amount of waste but there's always a dilemma, because to preserve their efficacy and integrity, products require a degree of packaging. So we kept it simple, and made the most responsible and considered decisions that we could with the materials available to work with at the moment. With every new product that we develop, we look at it from every angle and ask if we've done the best we can.

Our Approach

The beauty industry is not perfect and there is still a way to go in terms of achieving our sustainability aims. We will strive for improvement and evolve as the market does, but for launch we have made the following decisions:
Instead of using the minimum 30% recycled plastic to avoid plastic tax, we took our PCR content to 50% - as high as we could go without compromising on the stability and durability of our formulas. This gives our tubes a slightly grey tone - you may notice that they aren't a bright white. We're ok with this because looks aren't everything.
We opted for a refillable jar for our Night Soufflé, which will help to hugely reduce the amount of packaging for the consumer when replenishing.
Our cartons are World Land Trust certified carbon-neutral and our packs are all, as a minimum, fully recyclable.
We avoid any ingredients with a negative environmental load such as silicones and petrochemicals, and instead prefer to focus on safe, proven , clinically-effective plant derived ingredients.
We don't want to contribute to Greenwashing as a brand, or making sweeping statements condemning one material vs another - there are many nuances to consider and every decision has a knock-on effect to something else, and most packaging choices have their merits and their downsides. We weigh up everything, from recyclability to virgin materials vs recycled, weight of packaging, transport impact, origin, production impact, and make the best choices we can make each time. As a small brand we don't yet have the luxury of creating our own packaging from scratch and have to work with what is already out there, but that doesn't mean we can't insist on small steps that lead to big change in the long run.

Fragrance Free

Fragrance, whether natural or synthetic, is one of the most common sensitising ingredients in skincare. In order to impart a scent, fragrances react with a product base in a volatile manner and this reaction often causes skin sensitivity. Even if a product doesn’t seem to cause any immediate redness or irritation, damage from fragranced products can occur slowly and silently causing minor damage in the short term and bigger problems in the long term. Fragrances serve no functional purpose and are there purely to mask the smell of active ingredients and are often included purely to influence purchase decisions rather than out of need. At Made of More®, it’s about doing more for your skin, even if that means adding less of something.

Sustainable farming : From Field to face

Made of More sources its hemp seed oil from its own 4th generation family farm in the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside. The farming business (RH Lamyman Ltd) is passionate about regenerative agriculture and particularly soil health. Hemp is an excellent addition to the farm’s rotation as it captures more carbon than a mature wood of the same area which is not only beneficial for the environment but also for soil health. It is also grown without the use of chemical pesticides. The seeds are harvested and cold pressed in their own facility making it the most sustainable hemp seed oil in the country. RH Lamyman Ltd has grown hemp for 5 years with the benefit of a growing licence from the Home Office. RH Lamyman Ltd is assured via the British Red Tractor Scheme.
The Made Of More range has been developed in conjunction with a leading doctor and aesthetician, experts in British hemp seed oil and highly experienced beauty innovators.
